...was very awesome. I just haven't had time to say much about it because of a sudden emergency at home. Everything is under control now, but we had a bit of a scare yesterday. Ping me if you want to know more about that.
I really enjoyed the Solus kickoff event. I have very little experience LARPing, but I have been doing historical recreation with the SCA for many years. I like the idea of costuming and roleplaying, so its a wonder that I haven't been more involved in LARP up until now.
The field/site is great for this kind of event. I would say that it's an "easy" level woodland, which is good if you want to focus on other aspects of the game and not worry so much about getting caught up in thickets, tripping over rocks, or twisting your ankle in a hole. There is cover, but there there are also paths and roads, so its easy to get around the site. I also liked the convenience of having a "civilized" bathroom nearby.
I like playing an NPC or OPFOR character. It's just easier for me, being a noob, and when I'm doing things like this for fun, I don't want it to be too thinky. I'm happy to be expendable, reusable, and changeable, in this context. It allows me to see more behind the scenes, and I've always been more of a behind-the-scenes person in the theatre, anyway (i.e., costuming, props, set-building, special fx, etc.) However, at some point I will prolly try my hand at actually playing and operator.
Although I don't have much to compare it with, I like the Firefight! system so far. It seems easy to follow and meshes well with airsoft. I look forward to seeing how this particular story plays out. Well done!
